Georgetown Waterfront Engagement Session | A + K

I am not going to lie; I was stoked when I asked to do a Georgetown Waterfront engagement session. It had been on my bucket list for a while, and one of the things I love about that area is you get a DC vibe without having to pay for a permit. It has great light, and we were lucky enough to have flexibility to do it on a warm weekday in February. Because we opted for a weekday, we had less people to content with, and the weather literally was perfect!

You may wonder why I have been dying to do a Georgetown Waterfront engagement session; well, it has a lot of the things I like for my sessions. It would be great for a small family session, too. If you have been following me for a while, you know I love locations that give me different vibes, and this definitely met that criteria. We could have easily had the cute Georgetown neighborhood vibe, the canal area, and the waterfront. We concentrated on the latter two for this session. It also has places for natural seating, which I feel like is a plus. I love using blankets in the middle of an open field, but that doesn’t work so well in an urban environment. If I want to play with posing and have it feel more natural, then places for natural seating like benches and steps is a must.

If you are wondering what else makes my photography style different, you’ll notice I value connection and movement. I know that when I personally am posed, I’m so much more self conscious. I get much more comfortable in front of the camera if I can move around, and after years of being in the photography business, I’ve learned that movement helps my client of every age achieve that same level of comfort.

I also love connection, so you’ll see that I try to give you prompts, as well. I want to solicit as much natural emotion as I can during any session I run, and if I see something off posing wise, I’ll gently try to suggest a quick fix without making too much of a deal.

I loved seeing A+K’s connection. A is a former student of mine (I feel SO OLD), and it was so great to catch up with her and meet her partner (who is alum of where I currently teach). I don’t usually do Friday weddings because of teaching, but I couldn’t say no when she asked. To do a former student’s wedding is such a gift! I am so excited for their day in October!

My calendar is already getting pretty booked for 2022! I am striving for better work/life harmony, so I’m really trying to not overbook so I can be the best for my clients, family, and students at school. I have openings for sessions in July and August, but the rest of the year is getting pretty booked! To schedule a session, check out my pricing and the types of sessions I offer, and then head over to my contact form here. For weddings and elopements, I have some July and August availability and some December availability, but that’s it. I’m already getting inquiries for 2023 so don’t wait!

WEDDING & PORTRAIT PHOTOGRAPHY FOR PEOPLE WHO want their story told

Hi. I’m Teresa. While photography is a part-time job for me, documenting your stories doesn’t ever get treated like it’s not important. My full-time gig is teaching high school English, journalism, and photography at an all-boys’ school in Washington, DC. Journalism is my favorite subject to teach because it is as much about writing as it is about the art of observing the world, and I became a photographer because of my experiences in photojournalism.

You’ll see in galleries with my families, children, newborns, or weddings, my style definitely is more about documenting connection and trying to create real moments. I love a good portrait, but my heart is happiest when I get real smiles from people loving on and playing with each other.
