Washington DC Area Lifestyle Newborn Photographer

As a Washington DC area lifestyle newborn photographer, I sometimes get questions asking what that actually means, and it’s important people ask because you want to make sure the photographer’s style matches with what you want! This gallery below is a perfect example of my style. I enjoy storytelling in all of my photography and I do a mix of in-home images with some portrait images of the baby on his or her back.

Dealing with newborns and doing extreme posed newborn photography requires a lot of patience and training. In these type of sessions, families don’t get a lot variety. I realized early in my career that I did not love super posed newborn photography. The tedious posing and using a giant bean bag didn’t feel remotely personal to me, and it lacked the storytelling.

Since I started my business back in the spring 2016, I’ve found my style as a photographer, and I have realized storytelling is a bit part of who I am as a Washington DC area lifestyle newborn photographer. I like showing where the family lives, focusing on details and connection. I have a stash of baskets, wraps, furs, and even a few outfits and headbands that I loan to my families for the session for some unique portraits of the newborns. Each family gets access to my Preparing for Your Newborn Session guide so that everything can go smoothly. I love photographing these sessions when the babies are between 5-12 days old. It is important to book between 20 weeks and the start of your third trimester. If you are wanting a maternity session, I recommend booking it then, as well, and I’d do a maternity session late second trimester or early third trimester when you still feel good! If you book a maternity session with a newborn session, you get a 10% discount on the newborn session. Reach out to me at teresa@tcjdesign.com if you are interested! I have summer availability and fall availability for newborns.
