As a Southern Maryland Maternity and Family Photographer, I was reminded of this perfect maternity session by Timehop today! I am so busy with sessions that I often struggled to find time to get every gorgeous work on my website in a permanent space. This session was one of my favorites of last year!
I am so sad that this family moved, but I loved my time documenting them here in Southern Maryland and Annapolis. They followed a number of rules that made every session with them magical.
First, the mom was AMAZING at styling everyone’s outfits. I know Amazon was a source for a lot of her clothes. Nothing was crazy expensive. They coordinated instead of matching. There was always a pop of color somewhere and it was perfect for the setting and time of year.
They let their daughter lead; they didn’t get overwhelmed. Even if they weren’t relaxed inside, they never let it show on the outside. They understood connection, followed my prompts for movement, and mom and dad kept smiles on their faces at all times, which meant when I did the kiddo smiling, I had everyone looking at me for a portrait. (A common error is parents trying to prompt their kids and then I get them talking instead of smiling!)
I love this session because if you have been following me for a while, you know I LOVE getting multiple looks in one spot! (Jefferson Patterson Park is great for that!) It’s something I look for when I am scouting locations. This was a maternity session, and ideally, you want to do your maternity sessions before 36 weeks. I think 32 to 35 is the safest! You’ll have a good belly but not be so close if there are complications. This baby was actually born the following week early! (And healthy. And I did her newborn session!)
