Catesby Farm Styled Shoot | NOVA Wedding Photography

Wedding photography has been something I have been intrigued by for a while, but when my husband deployed, I knew I had to postpone any dreams of learning more about the world of wedding photography. Unlike family sessions, weddings go on despite the weather. There are no postponements because of rain or because my client is under the weather. You make the best of what God sends your way.

Because of this, I knew I couldn’t commit to photography when my husband was gone. I have three little kids, who at the time were ages 2, 4, and 6. I had plans to second shoot a wedding while he was deployed, and my babysitter (who I booked months in advance) cancelled days before, and no one else was available. With no family around and no one to take care of my kids, I had to call the lead photographer up, apologize profusely, and step away from this dream of adding weddings to TCJ Design until my husband came home and life was a bit more stable on my homefront.

My husband returned March of 2019, and he has supported me in every endeavor to second shoot (or third shoot) or invest in myself and my craft this past year. One opportunity that he supported was this styled shoot organized by Gracefully Made Weddings and Rebecca Sigety Photography. (Rebecca’s work will even be featured on Grey Likes Weddings!)

It was great to connect with a few other local photographers, vendors, and work with a real couple. While I was definitely the newbie in the group, I thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to observe how the other photographers worked, and it gave me the opportunity to be creative without messing up anyone’s big day!

It also gave me the confidence to know I could produce gorgeous, classic, timeless images for my future clients! So, in case you missed my announcements on Facebook or Instagram earlier this year, I have decided to add just a handful of weddings to my plate each year. My personal goal is just three to five weddings; I love doing my family photography and I don’t want to give that up, but there’s something magical about documenting one of the most important moments in a couple’s lives. While the timing has to be just right for me to take a shoot during the school year, I can make it work and give you the attention you deserve, but if you are a summer wedding, I have a lot more room for making your day fit into my calendar!

Doing just a few each year also lets me to get to know my couples really well and tailor each wedding to their needs! I have a few 2020 and 2021 weddings in the works, but I have room for more, still. If you’ve stumbled across my work and like my timeless, journalistic vibe with wedding photography, please take a second to fill out my survey here and get the process started to see if I can document your day!

WEDDING & PORTRAIT PHOTOGRAPHY FOR PEOPLE WHO want their story told

Hi. I’m Teresa. While photography is a part-time job for me, documenting your stories doesn’t ever get treated like it’s not important. My full-time gig is teaching high school English, journalism, and photography at an all-boys’ school in Washington, DC. Journalism is my favorite subject to teach because it is as much about writing as it is about the art of observing the world, and I became a photographer because of my experiences in photojournalism.

You’ll see in galleries with my families, children, newborns, or weddings, my style definitely is more about documenting connection and trying to create real moments. I love a good portrait, but my heart is happiest when I get real smiles from people loving on and playing with each other.
