2016: A year full of honors!

So 2016 was a huge year for my new business. I am so honored to have my photos being featured by photographers and used by businesses I respect!

In December, this image was featured on the Life + Lens Instagram feed and website! :)

One of the best things that happened to me professionally (besides staying super busy with such awesome clients) was getting recognized by the Life + Lens blog on Instagram and Facebook for one of the one year cake smash photos that I took this past December.

Another significant highlight has been taking photos for the Kidorable brand. Kidorable had a contest for brand ambassadors in August. After seeing them advertise their products years ago on Good Morning America’s weekly deals, I submitted a few pictures of my children playing with the only Kidorable items we actually owned: two umbrellas.

This was one of the photos I shot of Emma when I competed for us to be a brand ambassador for Kidorable. The rain coat is actually from Carters!

In addition to looking for cute kids, Kidorable had really specific characteristics they were looking for on the photography side. I’ve been one of the few brand ambassadors to be featured regularly and prominently on their Instagram, Facebook feeds and cover photo, and e-mail lists. (I may even be getting to do a Giveaway with them, so stay tuned for that!)

In my mere six months of operating TCJ Design, I’ve learned a few things about myself and my relationship with photography. Here they are, in no particular order.

  • I love documenting relationships.
  • I also like preserving history.
  • I enjoy the challenge of capturing real smiles rather
Liam and Emma were the only set of siblings chosen!

    than posed smiles.

  • I love hearing the story of each couple I photograph.
  • I love playing with children.
  • I want moms to be in more photos.
  • I am amazing by the unique personality of each family I photograph.
  • I can learn a lot about people by just spending one hour with them.
  • I enjoy working with businesses (so send some my way who are looking for someone to document their work for websites, social media, etc.!)

I hope I get the chance to experience one of these insights with you!

I'd love to help create the session you've always been looking for!

Some sources say today is National Best Friend day...others say it was June 8 or their was a friendship day a week ago...either way, I finally blogged this amazing Best Friend session from September 2020! I promise it'll make you want to have a session with your BFF, too! Link to my blog in my stories and on my profile!
Anyone else in TOTAL denial that summer is basically over? My husband starts his new job in DC today (post AF retirement today), and I'm swamped with school work and a few gorgeous galleries to edit. I'm carefully watching the weather for Saturday's National Mall minis. I wish I was at the beach at ADoryable again, but in the meantime, I'll just keep saying Dory's famous lines: Just keep swimming, just keep swimming, just keep swimming... hopefully I tackle a lot of work today while keeping the kids busy!
There is something I just love about the 2-4 age. I embrace the curiosity, the desire to be close to mom and dad, the silliness, the raw emotions. I know many photographers hate this age. Yes, it's hard to get them to sit still, but I love playing games and letting them explore. I can get them to just be. Now that my kids are older, it's harder to get them to just BE in front of the camera. I miss them at this age. So simple, beautiful, and fun.

"Photography is an art of observation. It has little to do with the things you see and everything to do with the way you see them"

I'm taking my kids into DC to hit a museum and Ford's Theater with a friend today, and when I go near the National Mall, I still can't get over how lucky I am to live here. It doesn't get old seeing the monuments and history at our doorstep!

I still have one more slot open for my August 20 National Mall mini sessions! It's at 7:20 a.m. Book by going here: https://tcjdesign.hbportal.co/schedule/60e34d525768d7003239e230
This maternity session. 😍 I will be oversharing this.
My 7:20 am National Mall mini slot for August 20 is still available! Tag a friend you think might be interested. Details are in my most recent blog on www.tcjdesign.com.
Families with older kids, please get your photos taken, too. Documenting all milestones are important… and your oldest going off to college is definitely one of them!
