May the Fourth Be with You | Star Wars Day

May the Fourth has been a favorite day since my husband I were married. We both love Star Wars, and since we have had kids, taking selfies and photos of us in our Star Wars shirts has been a tradition.

This year, wearing Star Wars clothes was required at our home school by the principal/teacher/dean of students (aka mom), not that I had to fight the kids at all to do it. For my youngest (Chewbacca), it meant pajamas all day. My middle kid (Darth Vader) wears his costume monthly. The biggest surprise for me was that my oldest (Rey) wanted me to try and give her Rey hair. Her short pixie hair is way overdue for a haircut (thanks, coronavirus) so it was almost long enough to put in three little pony tails. While photo shoots with them tend to be stressful, they aren’t too hard when everyone is wearing a mask. (As I frequently say, my kids are the BEST practice, and I haven’t met a kid out there who is worse than them!)

I even had the idea yesterday to let my students get in on the fun. All of these young men already had As in the class, so they didn’t need it, but I love that they chose to have some fun with Star Wars day with me!

So we hope you have had a great day! Happy May the Fourth from all of us! And stay tuned for information on Front Porch sessions. As soon as Governor Hogan allows me to start shooting again, I’ll be offering them!

The Front Porch sessions will be 20-minute sessions; you will get your choice of 8 images for $125; the entire gallery will be $225. These are lower than my normal pricing, but I know finances are tight for many families, so I want to help you document this time. I will not be interacting as much and doing my normal play with the kids; these sessions will be much more structured than a normal TCJ Design session. Keep in mind that they will not be happening until I can legally offer them! E-mail me at teresa@tcjdesign.com or through my contact page to get notified on when they are happening!

WEDDING & PORTRAIT PHOTOGRAPHY FOR PEOPLE WHO want their story told

Hi. I’m Teresa. While photography is a part-time job for me, documenting your stories doesn’t ever get treated like it’s not important. My full-time gig is teaching high school English, journalism, and photography at an all-boys’ school in Washington, DC. Journalism is my favorite subject to teach because it is as much about writing as it is about the art of observing the world, and I became a photographer because of my experiences in photojournalism.

You’ll see in galleries with my families, children, newborns, or weddings, my style definitely is more about documenting connection and trying to create real moments. I love a good portrait, but my heart is happiest when I get real smiles from people loving on and playing with each other.
