National Arboretum Mommy and Me Session
August 2, 2021 By  Teresa With  0 Comment

I told you. August is my blog month, so here I am covering my March National Arboretum Mommy and Me Session with one of my favorite families! So here’s a quick thing about planning a National Arboretum Mommy and Me Session (or any session really), there is a heftier fee to use the arboretum than most places, AND you can only have sessions on Sundays, Tuesdays, or Thursdays. So… when planning, make sure you keep that in mind. The staff was amazing to work with, but the schedule is a bit hard to reschedule if you have a weather issue, and they DO limit the number of photographers who are in a certain area at once.

That said, it is a GORGEOUS venue. I love photographing this family, and I’m so excited they’re going to be at my National Mall Minis with dad this Saturday. Mom is a photographer herself, so she gets my style and the types of images I love: emotion, connection, love. Poses are great, but smiles with connection are even better in my book. Her kids are the exact ages of my crew, so we did games and I let them just be and documented them.

We used the columns first, and then moved the National Arboretum mommy and me session to the blooming trees. The arboretum is really the way to go if you want spring photos and don’t want to fight the crowds at the National Mall. The only downside is it’s even more to pay to go outside of hours, and the lighting can be tricky if you don’t know what you are doing at 8 a.m. when they open.

I just loved this session. I have just a few 2021 openings, and I tend to book about three months out now. I’m going to be more forward about the dates I am scheduling sessions, so be sure to pay attention and if you have a 2022 date you want on my calendar, don’t hesitate to reach out. (Yes, I said 2022!) Head over to my contact page and shoot me a message! And moms, consider giving this to yourself for your birthday or mother’s day! I am thinking I need to schedule one for me and my three kids next year.

I'm glad M let me do something a bit unconventional for part of her headshots session last week. I just couldn't resist the glowy light and being off-centered allows room for all sorts of text on a website. :)
I'm just loving editing this multi-generational shoot. The mom requested details, and I was happy to oblige. Great grandmother's and grandmother's hands that carried and cared for now adult babies now holding fresh tiny ones. I just loved it all. It's not my usual style, but I found myself loving it!

Big week for this kiddo. He makes his First Communion Saturday! I can’t wait to celebrate him. He has such an amazing suit!
Great grandma came to visit the baby, so it was the perfect time for photos of four generations. This is a little more formal than my normal work, but I have a lot of great candids, too. I just love little Cam's smile! Swipe to see one of him solo. He's almost five. months old!
We had such a busy day yesterday running all over. Today, we're catching up on some spring maintenance at home. Who else is loving this warmer weather?

More of this family session in my stories!
I get to do another multi-generational shoot tomorrow, and I just love them. They are that family history documented in a form that generations down the road will see.
Happy Easter from my crew! 🐰🐣Hope everyone has a relaxing day with family and friends. We travelled to St. Louis this past week, so now that we are home today is going to be busy ... we are cleaning the house and getting the dogs from the kennel. We have to be productive today because tomorrow we get to go to the White House for the Easter Egg Roll! 🥚 I actually won tickets through the lottery... we are so excited. Hopefully, I'll be able to get some photos tomorrow.
