Mommy and Me Session at Terrapin Park

So many people don’t realize that I offer gift cards; because of military life, I only guarantee them for a year…while I hope and pray we are not leaving DC, any time soon, who knows. So, Adriane bought her boyfriend a gift card last year so he could get photos with his kids; they never used it, it was expiring, a family session was planned, but he and his kids couldn’t attend, so it became a mommy and me session at Terrapin Park instead.

I have been wanting to do a session at Terrapin Park for a while. I explored it this past spring my with kids and in-laws, and I loved it because it had one of the main things I look for in my locations: variety. It has trails, it has fields, and and it has beach. And with the exception of the toll for the Bay Bridge, it honestly is the same distance as driving into DC some days.

It was her son’s Liam’s 10th birthday, and it was so nice to be able to commemorate that with some moments with his mom. We always think of doing mommy and me sessions like this with our little kids, but sometimes it’s nice to get in the frame and capture it with those bigger kids, too. Editing this made me think about doing a session like this with my daughter when she turns 10 in October and continuing it with each boy; I’m not in the frame as much as I’d like to be, and I don’t want them to look back and wonder why. I want them to see me loving them at all the ages!

I have just a few openings left for 2021, and it’s not too early to book for 2022! I know that sounds crazy to say, but it’s true! The great thing about a session at Terrapin Park is that it gets great sunsets and I know this would be a great fall/winter location, too! It gives timeless photos.

Happy Father's Day to all of the dads out there, especially those who are celebrating for the first time! Head over to @tcj_photos to see some of my awesome husband!
PSA from a military spouse: Memorial Day isn't about the veterans currently serving, who have served, or who have died of natural causes. That's why we have days like Veterans' Day or Armed Forces Day. Memorial Day is for those who lost their lives while serving. Last year, we visited the part of Arlington to see my husband's friend who died in a helicopter crash. It was heart-wrenching to see so many people hanging out, having a picnic, and just being as close as they could to their loved ones that left us too soon. I'm so thankful that my husband came back from those deployments in Iraq and Afghanistan and that he's been able to text me at the end of every helicopter flight to say he landed safely. Remember the real meaning of the day as you enjoy extra time off with your family and friends. It's not about honoring all Veterans. It's about honoring those who gave up everything for us.
I'm glad M let me do something a bit unconventional for part of her headshots session last week. I just couldn't resist the glowy light and being off-centered allows room for all sorts of text on a website. :)
I'm just loving editing this multi-generational shoot. The mom requested details, and I was happy to oblige. Great grandmother's and grandmother's hands that carried and cared for now adult babies now holding fresh tiny ones. I just loved it all. It's not my usual style, but I found myself loving it!

Big week for this kiddo. He makes his First Communion Saturday! I can’t wait to celebrate him. He has such an amazing suit!
Great grandma came to visit the baby, so it was the perfect time for photos of four generations. This is a little more formal than my normal work, but I have a lot of great candids, too. I just love little Cam's smile! Swipe to see one of him solo. He's almost five. months old!
We had such a busy day yesterday running all over. Today, we're catching up on some spring maintenance at home. Who else is loving this warmer weather?

More of this family session in my stories!
