Allen Pond Park Session | Bowie Family Photographer
I love a planner, and S was amazing at getting on my calendar early for her Allen Pond Park Session with her son! He reminded me again that my favorite age to document is that 1-3 yer old stage where they are playful, flirtatious, and authentic.
We chose an Allen Pond Park Session because it’s close to their house. I love the natural leading lines on the walkway and that I can get natural seating. Their session was after one of our first real rains, so we didn’t opt for the playground since it was drenched, but I love that I can end with some real smiles and genuine play when I’m there, too.
I was reminded of a few things during this session. Number 1: I’m so glad we’re past the covid times…covid babies were hard! Number 2: little kids just want to be loved. If they don’t like something during a session, it’s important to honor that and don’t push. If we try something that works with 99% of the kids I’ve photographed, and a kid gets teary, I tell the parent to stop. Don’t push. Let the kids lead. THAT is the real magic to any family session being successful. Pay attention to the kids, and let them have some control.
I felt like this little guy had SO many faces. I’m so glad I could capture so many of them. I also love detail shots, and so I wanted to make sure I got plenty of those during this sweet mommy and me Allen Park Pond session. This guy loved grabbing onto mom’s jacked. He needed a bit of help walking but had his own way to hold her for support. I loved his little curls.
I know from watching my kids grow up so many of those things change. My little guy lost his curls. (SOB. Seriously. I LOVED them and I think I could bring them back with product but that has been a hard no so far… my 10 year old gets to have control over his own body.) I can barely carry my kids anymore, even though my youngest still wants me to hold him sometimes in church. I know it’s clichè, but in a blink of an eye, those things really do just disappear one day. So when I see these little moments in a session, I zero in. I want my families to remember EVERYTHING about their kids at whatever age they are at.
Mini sessions are generally the perfect length for something like a Mommy and Me session. I recommend booking at least three months out if you are early in the calendar year and know that by August, I’m generally booked for the year unless you are booking one of my planned mini sessions.
Head over to my Family Collections page for pricing, and then to my contact page to schedule! If you want a mommy and me Allen Pond Park session or some other venue, I’d love to be considered for your photography needs!
