National Mall Mini Sessions at the Thomas Jefferson Memorial

So construction to the Lincoln Monument meant that National Mall Sessions for the next few years will look a little different. They will be fluctuating between the Reflecting Pool area and the Thomas Jefferson/Tidal Basin area. Thomas Jefferson is just about finished with his recent cleaning and renovation, but as many heard, they’re doing work on the Tidal Basin, so fall National Mall minis location will be depending on where I can get good views without a lot of construction. If you want to book a full family session, you can get in so much more..including the park to the north of the Reflecting Pool, the DC War Memorial, and even the WW2 Memorial… remember that full sessions are really great for kids who take a bit of time to warm up, and if that’s your family and you want to do more than one slot, just reach out and we can make that work!

No matter what…these are some of my favorite sessions to do for my clients and my family. I love National Mall Mini Sessions.

A few things to note about how these run…they are a mix of movement and poses. I do not just do poses. I try to get a lot of combinations: entire family, all the guys, all the girls, mom with the kids, dad with the kids, kids together, kids solo, and sometimes headshots of the adults if they want them. I don’t always get all of those, so if you want certain combinations, it’s important to let me know that on your client questionnaire.

These sessions are only 20-25 minutes. They do cost a bit more than my normal minis, but that’s because a permit is required to use the National Mall for sessions. You get a smaller rate though during minis, because I’m able to split that cost between multiple families instead of having one person pay the $145 fee.

I do these at sunrise, usually twice a year. I pick the times that sunrise is the latest…so just before the time change in the spring and just before the time change in the fall. I usually have to keep an eye on marathons and races since they mean road closures. There’s a lot to making sure these are easy and go smoothly for my families!
