Lifestyle Newborn Session | Mackenzie {Three Weeks Old}

Lifestyle newborn sessions are ones I love dearly! Although anyone who knows me I don’t love the overly posed newborn shots. For me, the magic of a newborn session is seeing the family dynamics change because of this tiny life. Everything revolves around the baby.

I was reminded of this during my visit with little Mackenzie and her family. Mackenzie came early, and despite being three weeks old, she was a dream for her posed session sleeping the entire hour.

I don’t do overly posed newborn sessions, but her mom had flowers on a white carpet ready to go for me! Mackenzie’s mom followed the directions, and she had the house uncomfortably warm, and that kept little Mackenzie sound asleep despite being older! She was still so tiny, just seven pounds.

Her older dog sibling was very protective; I think it was the first time a dog barked when the shutter clicked on my camera, but little Mackenzie slept right through it!

Once we knocked out the posed portraits, it was on to the lifestyle newborn session. Parents work so hard on nurseries, and I capture many of the details that make Mackenzie’s nursery special. I also captured some family time in her parents’ room, just to vary the scenery.

Something unique about this session is that Mackenzie’s mom added on for an extended family session. This was my first time weaving in a traditional newborn shoot and getting portraits of the baby with grandparents, a cousin, and an aunt and uncle. It’s such a great idea, though, to have professional photos that everyone can cherish! (If you are interested in making any session an extended family one, just ask and I’ll explain the details!)

Congrats, again, to Mackenzie’s mom and dad on such a beautiful little girl!

    Happy Father's Day to all of the dads out there, especially those who are celebrating for the first time! Head over to @tcj_photos to see some of my awesome husband!
    PSA from a military spouse: Memorial Day isn't about the veterans currently serving, who have served, or who have died of natural causes. That's why we have days like Veterans' Day or Armed Forces Day. Memorial Day is for those who lost their lives while serving. Last year, we visited the part of Arlington to see my husband's friend who died in a helicopter crash. It was heart-wrenching to see so many people hanging out, having a picnic, and just being as close as they could to their loved ones that left us too soon. I'm so thankful that my husband came back from those deployments in Iraq and Afghanistan and that he's been able to text me at the end of every helicopter flight to say he landed safely. Remember the real meaning of the day as you enjoy extra time off with your family and friends. It's not about honoring all Veterans. It's about honoring those who gave up everything for us.
    I'm glad M let me do something a bit unconventional for part of her headshots session last week. I just couldn't resist the glowy light and being off-centered allows room for all sorts of text on a website. :)
    I'm just loving editing this multi-generational shoot. The mom requested details, and I was happy to oblige. Great grandmother's and grandmother's hands that carried and cared for now adult babies now holding fresh tiny ones. I just loved it all. It's not my usual style, but I found myself loving it!

    Big week for this kiddo. He makes his First Communion Saturday! I can’t wait to celebrate him. He has such an amazing suit!
    Great grandma came to visit the baby, so it was the perfect time for photos of four generations. This is a little more formal than my normal work, but I have a lot of great candids, too. I just love little Cam's smile! Swipe to see one of him solo. He's almost five. months old!
    We had such a busy day yesterday running all over. Today, we're catching up on some spring maintenance at home. Who else is loving this warmer weather?

More of this family session in my stories!
