Milestones | June – 1 Year Old

Milestones are so much fun, and one thing I have learned photographing little kids in the last three and half years is that the age of one looks so different on each kid.

Pediatricians set milestones for us about a child’s development… can he sit? Can she walk? Can he talk? Can he hold an object? As a photographer, I play a bit of this guessing game every time I photograph a kiddo under the age of two.

Little June was no exception with this! She had just started to walk a bit on her own when I photographed her right before her first birthday… so we played a lot of games trying to figure out what she wanted to do for us: sit on the ground, sit on a stool, stand, stand assisted. You get the gist.

Even though there’s so much variety with what they can do mobility wise at this age, one thing has been consistent: they do not like to sit still for long. June was no exception. She was also extremely curious about her environment, and I even saw a bit of her stubbornness, which I think is a trait in all little kids. I wouldn’t have been able to get as many smiles without her mom’s patience and willingness to experiment with my endless list of prompts and ideas. She sure made me work, but I was able to deliver a great gallery!

If you would like to book a session, I have very few fall openings, so contact me today through my contact page or by e-mailing me at teresa@tcjdesign.com to book a session. And don’t forget I have openings still for my holiday minis at the Christmas tree farm! Details are on the Facebook page. If you happen to be in St. Louis, I’ll be there in October, too! Details also under events on my Facebook page!

WEDDING & PORTRAIT PHOTOGRAPHY FOR PEOPLE WHO want their story told

Hi. I’m Teresa. While photography is a part-time job for me, documenting your stories doesn’t ever get treated like it’s not important. My full-time gig is teaching high school English, journalism, and photography at an all-boys’ school in Washington, DC. Journalism is my favorite subject to teach because it is as much about writing as it is about the art of observing the world, and I became a photographer because of my experiences in photojournalism.

You’ll see in galleries with my families, children, newborns, or weddings, my style definitely is more about documenting connection and trying to create real moments. I love a good portrait, but my heart is happiest when I get real smiles from people loving on and playing with each other.
