DC Area Tree Farm Sessions

One of the cornerstones of my business has been my annual DC area tree farm sessions. I started hosting these mini sessions in the first or second year of my business, and they have easily been the most popular mini I offer. Typically, they book in less than a week. This past year, they booked in just 48 hours!

I set a Saturday date for my DC area tree farm sessions, and then the Sunday is always the bad weather backup. I’ve had the on days where it’s been freezing and days where it’s been warm. I’ve played around with the date, but it’s always mid October or early November. It also easily the best bargain for sessions with me.

This sweet family is one of my military families that I’ve worked with before; I did the little girl’s newborn session, and I just love getting to see my newborns bigger with personality!

So this session was very typical of my tree farm minis. They’re 20-25 minutes long. We’re on the move the entire time. For kids who need more time to warm up, I would definitely recommend a longer session. Even with some of the kids I see annually, some years they are in great moods and other years, they are not. I always manage to capture some great magic, and the parents are surprised, but I see in their faces the stress when their child doesn’t cooperate and the know they have such a limited time with me. If clients want some non-tree photos, it’s important to let me know that before the session. There are a few places where I can get those angles and get more timeless shots. Since this was also a milestone session for KJ, I was able to get some variety in for them. Also, in case you couldn’t tell, pets are welcome at the tree farm. Just have them on a leash and clean up after them. Some of my favorite tree-farm sessions have been with pets!

If you want to get on my list for my 2022 tree farm sessions, definitely watch my Facebook and Instagram in July. I usually announce it then! You can also email me at teresa@tcjdesign.com to get added to my mailing list. I send out only one or two emails a year, and the tree farm minis are one of them! I don’t share a lot of the tree farm images on social media just because a lot of people use them for Christmas cards, so I like to let you save them for that.

Tree farm minis are one of my favorite business days of the year, so I hope you’ll consider joining for the 2022 sessions!

WEDDING & PORTRAIT PHOTOGRAPHY FOR PEOPLE WHO want their story told

Hi. I’m Teresa. While photography is a part-time job for me, documenting your stories doesn’t ever get treated like it’s not important. My full-time gig is teaching high school English, journalism, and photography at an all-boys’ school in Washington, DC. Journalism is my favorite subject to teach because it is as much about writing as it is about the art of observing the world, and I became a photographer because of my experiences in photojournalism.

You’ll see in galleries with my families, children, newborns, or weddings, my style definitely is more about documenting connection and trying to create real moments. I love a good portrait, but my heart is happiest when I get real smiles from people loving on and playing with each other.
